Tsutenkaku Tower Guide

Reach for the Sky: Osaka's Iconic Landmark Guide

Welcome to Tsutenkaku Tower, a beloved symbol of Osaka and a must-see for any visitor! This iconic structure offers panoramic views of the city, a glimpse into Osaka's vibrant history, and a fun, retro atmosphere. More than just an observation tower, Tsutenkaku is a cultural landmark that embodies the spirit of Shinsekai, Osaka's "New World" district. The original Tsutenkaku Tower was built in 1912, inspired by the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. It was a symbol of Osaka's modernization and quickly became a popular attraction. Sadly, it was dismantled during World War II to provide steel for the war effort. The current tower, rebuilt in 1956, stands as a testament to Osaka's resilience and its enduring love for this landmark. Inside, you'll find Billiken, the "God of Things As They Ought to Be," whose feet are rubbed for good luck. Visitors can ascend to the observation deck for stunning 360-degree views of Osaka. Explore the various levels, including the Tip Top Theater, a small performance space, and shops selling Tsutenkaku-themed souvenirs. Don't miss the chance to rub Billiken's feet for good luck! Shinsekai, the district surrounding the tower, is famous for its *kushikatsu* (deep-fried skewers). Many restaurants offer this local specialty, and it's a must-try culinary experience when visiting Tsutenkaku.
